“Southern states have the highest fast food count per capita. The top spot goes to Alabama at 6.3 restaurants per 10K residents. The only non-southern states in the top ten are Nebraska at 5.4 and Indiana at 5.0, both in the Central region. As for the states with the fewest fast-food restaurants per capita, most are from the Eastern region with Vermont having the fewest fast-food restaurants per capita at 1.9 per 10K residents. Mississippi made a surprise appearance with just 2.1 fast food restaurants per 10K residents.”

Taiwan is home to some of the coolest drinks such as fresh fruit juices, soy milk, and smoothies. However, they are having a problem with plastic straws. The straws end up in the waterways, wildlife and mix with Taiwan’s food supply. The country’s most popular export is boba or bubble tea and without a straw, it renders the novelty useless. You need a straw to drink boba. Taiwan plans to have plastic straws and cups banned by 2030. Plastic straws are now outlawed in parts of Florida. Calfornia wants to take the ban statewide. The eyes of the world are looking for a biodegradable-straw solution.

New York WaterMaker, a New Jersey company unveiled a water-filtration system at the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas. It promises to improve any out-of-town restaurant’s pizza and bagels to taste just like the New York style food. The company feels that the secret to a good New York pizza and bagel is in their tap water. Now you can have water that mimics New York’s tap water. Paul Errigo, chief executive of New York WaterMaker says his filtration system will cost $2,890-a-year. Errigo plans to offer businesses 10-year leases — and ship new filters every six months.

Just what did the most notorious death-row inmates order as their last meals? You would be surprised at some of them. John Wayne Gacy who was charged with rape and 33 counts of murder. His last meal consisted of fried shrimps, a bucket of original recipe KFC, french fries and a pound of strawberries. Other inmates such as Timothy McVeigh had two pints of mint and chocolate-chip ice cream. Many states still grant a last meal to their prisoners. The state of Texas abolished the “the last meal” in 2011. Now everybody gets the same meal.
