McSpaghetti?

McSpaghetti still thrives in the Philipines. The sweet ketchup spaghetti sauce has always been a Filipino favorite since the 40’s. So it’s not a surprise that McDonald’s still carries the failed dish that did not catch on globally.

“Those famous Swedish meatballs you get in Ikea are actually Turkish, admits Swedish government,” tweeted TRT World.

With Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War soon to hit theatres, the gauntlet will be thrown down as merchandising will hit all stores to fight for your hard earned dollar. So which manufacturer will collect your money? Now you can buy from the people who make Jell-O, Jello Spider-Man Cherry and Hulk Lime Jell-O Mixes. It’s too bad they could not come up with a gauntlet with different flavors that you could eat from and gain imaginary super-powers. What no blueberry Captain America Jell-O, grape Thanos Jell-O, and orange Iron-Man Jell-O? They should have created a Thanos Jell-O multipack with the gem colors.

Did Thomas Jefferson Invent Macaroni and Cheese?

Urban legend has it that Thomas Jefferson created Mac and Cheese. In his worldly travels, he brought back new food ideas. It turns out that the third president of the United States was quite a foodie. He introduced the delicacy at a state dinner in 1802. He did not invent Mac and Cheese but made it popular. It was already a standard dish in Europe

The horror of loud popcorn munching in A Quiet Place

John Krasinski’s film, A Quiet Place, has about 90 lines of dialogue in the whole movie. As the movie title suggests, there is a lot of silence in the whole movie. Moviegoers are complaining that during the movie, popcorn munching has become a big distraction. Please do not bring popcorn to A Quiet Place. Here are some silent food alternatives; Gummy sweets, soft cookies, Cadbury Fudge bars, cupcakes, sushi and soft pretzels. If you are going to slurp that drink to the bottom, you better reconsider or feel the wrath of people around you. Theatre owners are horrified of the notion that people might not buy food at the concessions. Eaters beware!

              The Compostable Pizza Box

Who says a pizza box has to be square. The round pizza box was created by Glenn Cybulski with the help of World Centric, a world leader in compostable products. The new concept should be hitting the market this summer. The only drawback is limited printing on the round pizza box due to the box composition. How will the pizza industry take to the concept is anybody’s guess? The box is being called PizzaRound.
Guess they will make the rounds this summer and try to convince the world to go PizzaRound.

What ever happened to turtle soup?

We do not eat turtles. Turtles eat pizza. There was a time in the U.S. where turtle soup was a popular dish. In early black and white movies, it was common to see turtle soup on a menu. The waning of the dish grew because of our affinity for the turtle being a cute creature. From Pogo’s bard of the swamp “Churchy” to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we were conditioned to not eat turtles but to make them our pets. The peak of turtle soup came when an overpopulation of people rushed to the San Fransico area during the Gold Rush. Food was very expensive.
In 1971, The Endangered Species Act was passed and killing sea turtles in United States waters was prohibited. Granday’s and other turtle canneries went out of business.

                  Cricket Chips

There is nothing wrong with eating bugs. Many countries throughout the world love eating bugs. North America has an issue with eating bugs. We have no problem squashing the crap out of them. As much as we hate them, we do not want to eat them. Chirps chips hope to dissuade you from those silly notations. Just think of Dorito chips ground up with cricket flour. You can pick from three different flavors: cheddar, bbq and sea salt chips. Just stop thinking of Jiminy Cricket singing “When You Wish Upon A Star” and take a bite out of that little bugger. Yummy!
Once you try Chirps, you will bug your friends to snack on them too.

                      Walmart sells funeral potatoes

I am a bit surprised that a conservative retailer like Walmart would sell funeral potatoes. Traditionally, the casserole is served as a side dish during after-funeral dinners in the Western and Southern United States. They are very popular at gatherings of the Church of Latter-day Saints. I have not tasted funeral potatoes, I heard they are to die for.

Eating disorderly: Teens prefer snorting condoms to eating Tide Pods

Teens eat strange things. The latest craze is eating Tide Pods. That is so yesterday already. When asked, teens say they prefer snorting condoms. The “Condom Challenge” consists of sticking a condom up your nostril, inhaling it then pulling it out of your mouth. Come again? I do not think this is how we practice safe sex.

Lick your very own life-size face lollipops

Food trends come and go. Here is one from the weird side. You can have a custom made life-size lollipop of your face. This is too easy. There is a sucker born every day or in this case, made every day. The Face Licker takes about 7-10 working days to create. Depending on which part of the world you are in, it will set up back about $56.00 (£39.99) on the average. Just out of curiosity is the face the only body parts being made? Just asking.

                            Mascot: Tony the Tiger

Kellogg’s Sugar Frosted Flakes of Corn was introduced in 1952. Kellogg’s ran a contest with the introduction of the cereal. They wanted the consumer to pick the official mascot for their cereal. In the running were Katy the Kangaroo, Elmo the Elephant, Newt the Gnu and Tony the Tiger. It was a fierce battle, but a year later Tony the Tiger was victorious. The original voice of Tony the Tiger was Dallas McKennon who also voiced Gumby and the original Snap, Crackle and Pop voices for Rice Krispies.
