It’s a hit! Texas Rangers’ Dilly Dog

Baseball is about chillaxing and chowing down on food and drinks. The Texas Rangers have a unique food offering called the Dilly Dog. It is a hollowed out pickle with a hot dog inserted inside and covered in fried cornmeal batter. Gone are the days when you would only buy a beer and a hot dog. MLB stadiums are offering outlandish food variations of traditional stadium food. It has become a food adventure for your stomach if your wallet can afford it. When they sing at the seventh inning stretch, you better include buy me some peanuts, Cracker Jack and a Dilly Dog and whatever flavor of the month is offered in each stadium. When they say batter up, they really mean that they are frying another Dilly Dog in Texas.

It turns out that the third president of the United States was quite a foodie. He introduced the delicacy at a state dinner in 1802. He did not invent Mac and Cheese but made it popular. It was already a standard dish in Europe

The horror of loud popcorn munching in A Quiet Place

John Krasinski’s film, A Quiet Place, has about 90 lines of dialogue in the whole movie. As the movie title suggests, there is a lot of silence in the whole movie. Moviegoers are complaining that during the movie, popcorn munching has become a big distraction. Please do not bring popcorn to A Quiet Place. Here are some silent food alternatives; Gummy sweets, soft cookies, Cadbury Fudge bars, cupcakes, sushi and soft pretzels. If you are going to slurp that drink to the bottom, you better reconsider or feel the wrath of people around you. Theatre owners are horrified of the notion that people might not buy food at the concessions. Eaters beware!

Walking on sunshine with Bud Light Orange

Bud Light Lime debuted 10 years ago, and the sales have dropped drastically since then, so Bud Light just introduced Bud Light Orange to compensate for lost revenue. This what BeerAdvocate.com is saying about the beer.
                  “It’s honestly not terrible.”
“More like a soda pop than a beer.”
“It smells and tastes exactly like someone mixed Bud Light and Orange Fanta.”
“Taste is artificial orange, corn, and citrus, but might not be too bad on a hot summer afternoon.”

What ever happened to turtle soup?

We do not eat turtles. Turtles eat pizza. There was a time in the U.S. where turtle soup was a popular dish. In early black and white movies, it was common to see turtle soup on a menu. The waning of the dish grew because of our affinity for the turtle being a cute creature. From Pogo’s bard of the swamp “Churchy” to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we were conditioned to not eat turtles but to make them our pets. The peak of turtle soup came when an overpopulation of people rushed to the San Fransico area during the Gold Rush. Food was very expensive.
In 1971, The Endangered Species Act was passed and killing sea turtles in United States waters was prohibited. Granday’s and other turtle canneries went out of business.

                          Cricket Chips

There is nothing wrong with eating bugs. Many countries throughout the world love eating bugs. North America has an issue with eating bugs. We have no problem squashing the crap out of them. As much as we hate them, we do not want to eat them. Chirps chips hope to dissuade you from those silly notations. Just think of Dorito chips ground up with cricket flour. You can pick from three different flavors: cheddar, bbq and sea salt chips. Just stop thinking of Jiminy Cricket singing “When You Wish Upon A Star” and take a bite out of that little bugger. Yummy!
Once you try Chirps, you will bug your friends to snack on them too.
