Walmart sells funeral potatoes

I am a bit surprised that a conservative retailer like Walmart would sell funeral potatoes. Traditionally, the casserole is served as a side dish during after-funeral dinners in the Western and Southern United States. They are very popular at gatherings of the Church of Latter-day Saints. I have not tasted funeral potatoes, I heard they are to die for.

Dunkin’ Donuts is testing donut fries

Dunkin’ Donuts is rolling out what they call “Donut Fries.” They are doing a test run in some of its restaurants in the Boston market. The cinnamon-sugar covered donut fries retail 5 for $1.99. To be fair, where I come from they are called churros. Nice try guys. Somewhere Homer is drooling for donut fries.

      Strange foods: Polish Beaver Tails

Polish people love their Beaver Tails. However, they are not the pastry version found at Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Canada. They are actually from the living animal. 300 years ago, beavers were considered to be part of the fish world by Polish people. Compendium ferculorum, albo Zebranie potraw (A Collection of Dishes) is a cookbook by Stanisław Czerniecki written in 1682 with the recipe for the Polish dish. Lucky for the beaver, it has become somewhat of an endangered species in Poland. Can I please get some Nutella and sugar on my tail, please! Like the dodo bird, this recipe has fallen by the wayside.

Food from the past: The invention of the pop top beer can

Words sometimes like food can be digested with delight.  In 1963 Schlitz started nationally using pop-top cans for their beer. Three years later cans were out-selling beer in bottles. Pulitzer Prize writer John Updike wrote a thirst-quenching bit for The New Yorker in 1964 about the progress of man using the beer can as a simile.  This is one meaty morsel of literature to bite into.

Nestle Mini Drums Vanilla Simply Dipped Mini Ice Cream Cones

Who says size matters. Nestle Drumstick Lil’ Drums are a perfect treat for this summer. Heck, they are good all year round. Good for small kids and little indulges when required for late night snacking. They are so good that you might finish the whole box.

Menus from the world: McDonald’s Hawaii Saimin Soup

McDonald’s Hawaii has quite a unique menu in their restaurants. They offer Saimin soup to their patrons. The Hawaiian-style ramen noodle is a staple on the islands. They also serve Portuguese sausage and Spam with rice on their breakfast menu.
“Saimin is a soup with egg noodles served up in a hot broth that has kamaboko (fish cake), char siu (barbecued pork), and nori (seaweed). In the late 1960s, this Hawaiian Saimin was added to the regular menu as the first local “ethnic” dish added to a McDonalds in its long history.”

Eating disorderly: Teens prefer snorting condoms to eating Tide Pods

Teens eat strange things. The latest craze is eating Tide Pods. That is so yesterday already. When asked, teens say they prefer snorting condoms. The “Condom Challenge” consists of sticking a condom up your nostril, inhaling it then pulling it out of your mouth. Come again? I do not think this is how we practice safe sex.

Lick your very own life-size face lollipops

Food trends come and go. Here is one from the weird side. You can have a custom made life-size lollipop of your face. This is too easy. There is a sucker born every day or in this case, made every day. The Face Licker takes about 7-10 working days to create. Depending on which part of the world you are in, it will set up back about $56.00 (£39.99) on the average. Just out of curiosity is the face the only body parts being made? Just asking.

                  Mascot: Tony the Tiger

Kellogg’s Sugar Frosted Flakes of Corn was introduced in 1952. Kellogg’s ran a contest with the introduction of the cereal. They wanted the consumer to pick the official mascot for their cereal. In the running were Katy the Kangaroo, Elmo the Elephant, Newt the Gnu and Tony the Tiger. It was a fierce battle, but a year later Tony the Tiger was victorious. The original voice of Tony the Tiger was Dallas McKennon who also voiced Gumby and the original Snap, Crackle and Pop voices for Rice Krispies.

Walmart’s new pizza in a bag featuring Pepperoni Jerky

Walmart is launching a new pizza slice concept. The pizza comes in a bag shaped like a traditional slice of pizza. It will be available in three flavors with pepperoni jerky. The suggested price will be $3.98 each.
1-Pepperoni Pizza Style: Traditional pepperoni pizza flavors.
2-Supreme Pizza Style: A meaty take on an Italian-inspired pie.
3-Buffalo Pizza Style: A hot and spicy pie in the shape of a slice.

                      Donuts are healthier than muffins

Can it be that a sugar donut is healthier than a plain muffin? The calorie count is much higher on a plain muffin than a sugar donut. TwoFoods: Food Comparison is a nifty tool to compare two foods side by side to see exactly how they stand up to each other. A plain generic muffin has a whopping 1909 calories, while a sugar raised donut from Dunkin’ Donuts has an average of 230 calories. Very surprising. So it’s time to go do battle and let your body win when you compare foods side by side.

Dunkin’ Donuts sneakers for Boston Marathon

It takes about 11 dozen donuts ($110) to buy a pair of Dunkin Donuts sneakers. The shoes are sold on saucony.com. Each year, Saucony creates a pair of custom running shoes for the Boston Marathon, and the 2018 edition is devoted to Dunkin’ Donuts. I might veer off the marathon and go to get a box of donuts.

                          The Peanuts Munchtime Cookbook

Peanuts is a merchandising juggernaut. This is not the first time that Peanuts printed a cookbook. Food has always played a significant role in the Peanuts’ universe. The Peanuts Munchtime Cookbook is a treat for fans of all ages. It is beautifully put together by Weldon Owen publishing with easy recipes and luscious art that your eyes can munch on.

Smell fresh like cheese and bacon

Nothing like washing your air with cheese shampoo and conditioning it with bacon conditioner. People might start asking you if you had a McDonald’s breakfast before going to work. The duo set is brought to you by Einstein Bros., the bagel guys. You can get the set when you purchase Cheesy Wakin’ Bacon sandwich. As long as you do not smell like lox, then all is good.
