Did you know that in Canada, Smarties are called Rockets? They are known as Rockets in Canada so as not to confuse them with the candy-coated chocolate Smarties made by Nestlé. Rockets and Smarties have identical packaging. The American version is made in New Jersey and the Canadian equivalent is made in Ontario.
I am speechless. KFC Canada is introducing the Double-Down sandwich with a golden Belgian waffle nestled between two pieces of fried chicken at participating restaurants. Nothing screams Canada more by adding maple aioli sauce to this monstrosity. I think it is a good time to do some cross-border shopping.
Believe it or not, the Hawaiian pizza was created by a Canadian? Unholy by pizza purists, this pizza found its way to many menus since it was created in 1962 by Sam Panopoulos, who was born in Greece and moved to Canada when he was 20. The Southwestern Ontario creation was named Hawaiian pizza after the brand of canned pineapple used for the pizza. Traditionally it is combined with ham as a contrast to the pineapple sweetness.
