Riding a giant mechanical pickle might sound absurd, but that’s part of the charm. It’s wacky, it’s whimsical, and most importantly, it brings people together. As America’s quirkiest culinary celebration, Picklesburgh marks its 10th anniversary in 2025 with more buzz than ever. From must-snap viral photo ops to the now-iconic pickle ride, this beloved festival has become a staple of summer in Pittsburgh.
Launched in 2015 as a playful tribute to the city’s pickle heritage, Picklesburgh has since grown exponentially—more than tenfold in attendance—transforming from a niche weekend event into a nationally recognized celebration that draws crowds from across the country. It’s now a cornerstone of Downtown Pittsburgh’s summer calendar and a powerful catalyst for the local economy.
“Picklesburgh has always been about more than just pickles – it’s about bringing people into the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh,” said Jeremy Waldrup, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. “Ten years later, it stands as proof of what’s possible when cities invest in public spaces. We’re not just hosting a festival—we’re showcasing Pittsburgh’s resurgence.”
The 2024 festival drew an astounding 250,000+ attendees, and 2025 is shaping up to be even bigger. Over the past decade, Picklesburgh has delivered a unique blend of fun, flavor, and financial impact, including:

- Nearly a 1,000% increase in attendance since its launch
- 114% growth in participating vendors
- Over 95,000 pickle beers poured
- 14,000 pickle balloons sold
- And an impressive 800 quarts of pickle juice were consumed in spirited competition
Picklesburgh isn’t just a food festival—it’s a cultural phenomenon, and after ten years, it’s clear the dill-lightful party is just getting started.
