Denver, Colorado claims that the cheeseburger was created there. The trademark for the name “cheeseburger” was awarded to Louis Ballast on March 5, 1935. Legend has it that the first cheeseburger was served at a barrel-shaped hamburger restaurant named Humpty Dumpty. The Humpty Dumpty restaurant was situated at 2776 North Speer Blvd. It’s now a Key Bank.
There are stories of other places in the country that make the same claim that their city was the first. Denver erected a monument at the spot where the first cheeseburger was served. Who am I going to argue with a monument that makes that claim?
