In my previous job, I worked as a food broker, which meant I was like a snack detective, hunting down the best munchies to bring to the masses. To get a jump on my snack game, I scoured the internet for clues about what these treats tasted like before I even dared to approach potential suppliers. One of my secret weapons was the legendary Taquitos.net. This site just hit the ripe old age of 25, which in internet years makes it practically prehistoric.
When you step into the world of Taquitos.net, it’s like hopping into a time machine set to 2000. The design hasn’t changed one bit—simple, no frills, just pure, unadulterated snack reviews. The site proudly boasts a staggering accomplishment: they’ve munched their way through 11,503 snacks, covering 87 categories from 2056 companies across 96 countries. That’s 164 major brands and 163 different flavors. Why, you ask? Because someone had to do the hard, crunchy work of rating everything from spicy chips to exotic candies. Plus, who wouldn’t want to be a part of such a delicious legacy?
According to creator Keith Shaw, the self-proclaimed “Secretary of Snacks,” the origin of the site’s name, Taquitos.net, is a bit of a winding tale. It all started with an insatiable craving for Trader Joe’s taquitos—those “hideous things,” as Shaw delicately puts it. The name might have faded into obscurity if it weren’t for a certain Simpsons episode where a resident of the Springfield Retirement Castle passionately declared, not once but twice, “I want some taquitos!” The name stuck, much like melted cheese on a hot taquito, and Taquitos.net was born.
