Dole’s New Pineapple Tastes Like a Piña Colada

Now I’ve truly heard it all. Dole has crafted a pineapple that tastes like a piña colada kissed by island breezes. The produce titan unveiled its latest tropical treasure, the Colada Royale, calling it a “game-changing” creation that took fifteen years of careful cultivation to perfect. This isn’t just fruit; it’s sunshine wrapped in golden skin.

Dole’s new pineapple offers more than just a hint of paradise. The Colada Royale boasts two and a half times more vitamin B6 than a traditional Dole pineapple, providing your brain, nervous system, and immune system with a sweet tropical boost. Imagine biting into a fruit that feels like sipping a cocktail under palm trees, smooth, lush, and decadent, yet entirely natural.

Bill Goldfield, Dole’s director of communications, shared that this jewel of the tropics isn’t meant to be an exclusive indulgence but a gift for everyone. “Our new Colada Royale Pineapple is not just a novelty or publicity gimmick,” he said. “It’s Dole’s long-term vision, an invitation for the world to rediscover the tropical majesty of pineapples through a luxurious new taste that lingers like a seaside dream.”

The new pineapple is also the result of a lifelong passion for Roberto Young, a native of Honduras who returned to his homeland in 1997 after earning his Ph.D. in plant breeding, crop, and soil sciences from Michigan State University. Joining Dole’s operations in La Ceiba, he began what would become a 28-year journey dedicated to perfecting nature’s sweetest gift. His first mission was to lead Dole’s natural pineapple-breeding program, a role that would ultimately bear golden fruit in the form of the Colada Royale, his proudest creation.

“I’m deeply proud of my work with Dole and of bringing a pineapple like the Colada Royale to the world,” said Young. “As a pineapple breeder, much of what I do happens quietly, with years of patience and hope. It can take a decade or more, sometimes 10, 12, or even 15 years, to craft a new hybrid through natural methods. Out of thousands of attempts, only a precious few ever reach the market. That’s what makes the Colada Royale so meaningful to me. It’s more than a pineapple; it’s my legacy.”

If the castaways from Gilligan’s Island had discovered the Colada Royale, they might never have wanted to be rescued. After all, with pineapples that taste like piña coladas, who needs a boat?
