SPAM Turns Up the Heat With New SPAM Gochujang Flavor

The creators of the SPAM Brand are once again delighting taste buds with a global twist by introducing their latest innovation: SPAM Gochujang flavor, a popular Korean condiment known for its spicy, sweet, smoky, and umami-rich profile. This exciting new variety, inspired by the rich and savory taste of Gochujang, is now available exclusively in an eight-pack at Costco Wholesale Warehouses.

“In celebration of the love Korean-Americans have for the SPAM brand, we wanted to create our very own SPAM Gochujang flavored,” said Jennesa Kinscher, senior brand manager for the SPAM brand. “This can pack an approachable heat while still providing the versatility and convenience we all love about SPAM products.”

What’s fascinating about gochujang is that it relies on a specific variety of gochu, or chili peppers, native to Korea. These peppers must possess a distinct mildness and a precise level of spice to create the authentic gochujang paste. Unlike many other hot sauces, gochujang can’t be crafted from just any chili peppers; it requires this unique Korean variety to achieve its signature flavor profile.

SPAM has long been a beloved ingredient in Korean cuisine, where it’s a key component in various traditional dishes such as kimbap, kimchi fried rice, and budae jjigae (also known as “army stew”). It’s also a popular gift during significant Korean holidays, including the Lunar New Year and Chuseok, the mid-autumn harvest festival.
