If you thought that Americans eat a lot of pizza you would be wrong. You should see what people eat in Norway! Each Norwegian consumes approximately 11 pounds of pizza per year. This is a staggering figure when you realize that pizza was not even famous in Norway until the 1970s and 1980s. Norwegians prefer to eat at home by baking a frozen pie.
If you visit Norway, you’ll notice pizza places on practically every street corner. Norwegians also eat a lot of pizza at home, buying frozen and baking it in the oven. Grandiosa is the most popular frozen pizza. In 2004, 20 percent of the population surveyed considered Grandiosa an unofficial national dish.
There are several variants of Grandiosa today, but the “original” is still very popular. While the specific formula of the original remains a closely guarded secret, some things are well-recognized. The crust is made of wheat and was originally imported from Canada.
